- The Dulles Toll Road was supposed to charge tolls until it was paid for, then revert to being a free road. Enough tolls were collected to pay for the road years ago, but those funds have been wasted. It's time to say enough is enough and quit making toll road commuters the cash cow for other projects.
- Higher tolls will force more cars onto local free roads (Rt. 7, Georgetown Pike, Rt. 28, and I-66) Current toll avoidance estimates show 35,000-50,000 cars/day forced into our already-congested neighborhoods.
- All this traffic will result in hours of time wasted in congestion. That's time we'd should be spending with our family and friends, or working to make ends meet.
- The resulting congestion will have serious effect on our environment.
- Rt. 7, Georgetown Pike, and other local roads will see increased accidents. There will be serious injuries, and probably lives lost due to this over-loading of already-busy roads.
- Excessive toll rates on the Dulles Toll Road isolate the Herndon/Reston area and Loudoun County from the rest of the Washington, D.C. region. This will hurt our local economy.
- Federal budget cuts and Department of Defense sequestration cuts are already hurting our local economy with climbing commercial office vacancy rates. Making our main transportation route unaffordable, and the other routes impassible due to toll avoidance traffic, would be a disaster. What business would want to relocate to that mess?
- Why should daily commuters pay through the nose, while the visitors to/from the airport pay NOTHING?!?! Toll the Dulles International Airport Access Highway instead of raising tolls on the Dulles Toll Road (MWAA controls both roads)!
We need to spread the word about these terrible consequences if tolls go up. Please send a short (150 words) letter to the editor of your local newspapers:
